B i o g r a p h y

Thomas Geoghegan studied principally with Rodrigo Riera, assistant to Andres Segovia, and was coached by Segovia, Alirio Diaz, and in composition, by Samuel Barber. He has performed as part of the Paris Festival, and served as artist-faculty at the Hopkins Center for the Performing Arts at Dartmouth College, the University of Vermont and Middlebury College. In 2004 Mr. Geoghegan appeared in recital with Poet Laureate Donald Hall.

Compositions of Mr. Geoghegan have been performed and recorded by soprano Kathleen Battle and guitarist Christopher Parkening, who has cited Mr. Geoghegan as "..one of the great composers for the guitar...whose playing possesses a musicality that few guitarists have."


Mr. Parkening has showcased Geoghegan's music at concert halls such as Benaroya Hall in Seattle and the '92nd Street Y' Tisch Center for the Arts in New York.

 

Mr. Geoghegan is the recipient of ASCAP awards for his Fourth Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra, his settings of nine traditional Spanish songs for soprano and guitar, and his Sonata for flute and piano.
